The Recap

We spent last weekend on a road trip with some friends in Austin. This was our first experience in traveling with anyone except family. Well, I guess if you don't count Prayer Group Retreats, but they're like family, right? We had a wonderful time and can't wait for our next "adfriendture".

The Hairdryer family did have a bit of a rocky start. Friday night, both girls were, I guess, car-sick? That was fun.

It was kinda' stealth-like. Absolutely no warning, and then BAM! They never knew what hit them.

It didn't actually happen while we were driving. Neither girl showed signs of feeling anything but fun and excitement the whole 7 hours we were in the van. No, the feeling sick started about 6 minutes after we got to our motel room. The actual being sick started about the time Honey and I were getting ready to go to sleep.

Somehow, Saturday morning, we were able to pull ourselves together and make it to Round Rock Donuts where we found a donut the size of Texas. It fed the whole family, and we became fans for life.

It's spring time in Texas and even though we are deathly dry all over the state, things are starting to bloom. It's a little early for bluebonnets, but my allergies were alive and well in our capital city.
Friday night and Saturday I had a bit of what you might call medicine head. From medicine that seemed to have no effect whatsoever on the allergy symptoms.

Ever the trooper, I didn't let that stop me from enjoying the day shopping at the area outlet malls. I have a crush on anything Eddie Bauer, and also Clarks. And Amy introduced me to Hartstrings.

We ended Day 1 with dinner at The Salt Lick. It was a unique, hill country b-b-q place. It was a little out-of-the-way, but we all agreed that it was worth the drive.

(Do I sound like I work for the Austin Chamber of Commerce yet? Links, links, links, and more links!)

I ended Day 1 by trying a new allergy medicine just before bed. When I woke up the next morning I declared Zyrtec-D my new best friend. I'm happy to say that I've been allergy symptom free since the blessed moment that stuff kicked in. It's a little more expensive, ok, quite a bit more expensive than the stuff I'd been taking, but my mama always says, "You get what you pay for."

Without allergy symptoms or medicine head, we enjoyed lunch at Hula Hut (oh,yes, I have more links), and toured the capitol, and The Story of Texas museum. We finished off the day with a visit to Austin's Park.

On our way home Monday morning, we spent an hour or so in Salado. Just for the record, an hour or so is not enough time to really experience Salado. But we had the kids, and the husbands, and they were not as excited about the shopping!, and the cute shops!, and, oh, the shopping! as we girls were. So we fully plan on making another trip down there, with or without the husbands, and definitely without the kids.

And if you aren't sick to death of hearing about the trip, I'm going to post a little virtual scrapbook of some great pictures.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some hoops madness to prepare for.

Very cool! Loved the pictures! Have I told you lately that you are looking great! I know it was a struggle to get started and to do the thing, but I am so proud of you! Glad ya'll had a good trip. We didn't go anywhere this week because my grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary party is next weekend, so we will be heading north then. It will be a super quick trip, but it should be good.
