Travel, texting, and seafood

The weekend I'd been living for finally came. Honey and I just got back from Ft. Lauderdale. He had a sales meeting on his agenda, and I had absolutely nothing on mine. Nothing, nada, zilch.

Which is what had me so excited.

No expectations, no schedules, and no kids.

We left the kids at home with The Nanny, and had a weekend all to ourselves. Well except for the meetings, and classes. . .oh, and all the other sales reps and their spouses, and the bosses, and the managers.

So you can imagine my surprise when, Friday morning, it was time to leave, and I wasn't excited. I had a hard time committing to the clothes I'd packed. I had a hard time rolling myself out of bed at 5 am to make our flight on time. I had a hard time leaving the kids asleep while we quietly left to drive to the airport.

Usually I'm dying to get out of town with Honey. A few hours alone . . . a few days without kid-sized interruptions . . . But Friday, I really wanted the kids to come with us. I missed them all weekend.

And I think Bubba missed us, too. Because he spent the weekend begging The Nanny to let him text me on her phone. And I guess he wore her down more times than not, because, he and I texted quite a bit over the four days we were gone. It almost made me want to get him a cell phone, just so I could talk to him whenever I wanted.

Almost.

Until I realized that he will never learn to spell properly if we let him start texting now.

When we were texting about how boring the girls' swimming lessons were Monday morning, and how he'd thought to bring his camera and take some pictures so I could see the first day of lessons, he texted, "Thot u mite want 2 c pics" . . . it was just too much.

Anyway, even though we missed the kids, we pushed through the pain and visited the beach. We really did have fun.

And I don't mind bragging that Honey was honored at the awards banquet Sunday night. The dress code was "black and white resort attire". Being from West Texas, we didn't really know what that was, but we took a stab at it.
And I ate some raw fish. Me and seafood don't really get along that well. I like to eat fish sticks. And I've been known to eat shrimp. Cooked shrimp. But Sunday night, I was starving when we finally sat down to dinner, and the appetizer was pan seared tuna. Which I guess, technically, isn't raw. But it was close enough.

And I was so desperate for food that I ate one of those pieces of raw-ish tuna. And then they served some steak and potatoes followed by some sort of chocolate de leche stuff, and all was right with my world.

Monday night we made it home and loved on the kids for an hour or so before bed time. And the relief that hit my body when I lay in my own bed cannot be described. We're all back under one roof, where we're planning hot dogs and potato chips for supper. And for right now, that's exactly how I like it.

Glad y'all had a good trip. By the way, you look AWESOME! Thanks for finally posting "after" pics of yourself! Way to go, Jenni! Also, I really like that dress!

You do look great! And that dress was perfect I'd bet. I understand on the kids thing...I'm really ready for a break too. But when SweetBoy went to be with Granddad and Meme the day he got out of school, I felt like I was missing something. I was ready to have fun with the kids and not have something we HAD to do everyday. I guess I'm more used to the idea because yesterday we swapped for SweetDoll's turn and the squabbling with brother is not happening today! And by the way, we are still waiting. Yes, I'm not kidding. That is not helping moods among the adults in the house either.

Oh wow...totally jealous here! How fun and refreshing! I''ve always wanted to try seared tuna...I don't know if I could do it, though. I'm so glad you and hubby got to take a quick trip and enjoy yourselves. Every mama deserves some R&R.

You look amazing. :)
I've been ordering rawish tuna a lot lately. Especially if it has a wasabi sauce of any kind. Yummo. :) Miss you! I'm finally getting caught up on blogs. (Kinda)
