13 years...

Today is our anniversary. We've been married 13 years. I'm not sure what 13 years is supposed to feel like, but it doesn't feel like it's been that long. Is 13 years even long? My parents have been married 39 years. That's long!
I feel old though. Last night mom and dad offered to keep the girls while we went out and celebrated.
We've been to Walmart on almost every date we've ever been on, and last night was no exception. Our checker was an older high school or young college student. He asked if we'd had a good weekend and what our evening plans were. We told him we planned on seeing Larry Crowne. He said, "Oh, yeah! I've heard of that. My parents went to see it, but I stayed home. I really want to see the new Transformers."
Translation..."I would rather stay home alone with absolutely nothing to do than see that movie for old people."
We bought our tickets early enough to get a popcorn and a bottle of water to share, because, well, honestly? I can't drink caffeine after 4:00 or it keeps me awake.
When we found our seats, we were the youngest people there. Which was a direct contrast to the last movie we saw together, Eclipse, in which we were the oldest people in attendance. In fact, Honey made some sort of comment as we were finding seats for Eclipse along the lines of, "I feel like a dirty old man in here with all these 15 year old girls."
I assured him that it was OK as long as he was with me. It made him a sweet husband earning brownie points with his wife for sitting through a movie about Edward.
We really enjoyed Larry Crowne. It was clean and funny. Not Adam Sandler funny, but still funny. See? We're old.
Then after the movie, we went to a local steak house. We knew that one of our old youth group kids waits tables there, and we asked to sit in his section. It was good to see him and catch up with him and his family. He even bought us some cheese cake. He asked what else we were going to do to celebrate. We told him we saw Larry Crowne. He was like, "What's that?"
I almost told him to go home and ask his mom, she would probably know what we were talking about. Instead we told him it was the new Julia Roberts movie. Those seemed to be the magic words, because suddenly he remembered seeing previews. Then he said, "Yeah, Mom wants to see that. I really want to see Transformers."
Yep...we've heard it's really good.
Maybe later in the summer, if we're feeling younger, I'll take Honey to see Transformers so we can relate to all the youngsters in our lives. Thank goodness Julia Roberts is there to help bridge that generational gap.

Last year I wrote about our wedding kiss.
A few years ago, I wrote about how we met, dated, and ended up hitched.

Happy Anniversary, Jenni!!! 13 years together is awesome. And, you sound like 'our' kind of couple ~ nice and simple dates. And hey, don't fix what ain't broken, right?!

Yikes! I didn't realise that liking Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks put me in the old crowd. Just one more thing, I guess. ;)

Congrats on 13 years! We just passed 9 1/2 last week, and I agree: It sounds longer than it really is.

Congrats! I thought about you guys! Yea, 17 sounds like a lot too and I wonder when that happened.

Honey is so great! (You can tell him I said so.) I have seen Transformers and still want to see Larry Crowne. And when you live in Cattle Gap Egypt, I might not get to see it until it is on Netflix.

So glad you guys found each other!
