The Breakfast of Champions

I can hardly wait to jump out of bed tomorrow morning! It's 10:33 on Thursday night and the coffee maker is set and ready to go. I also prepared a little breakfast treat for my family. It is actually one of the options on our breakfast list and it's one the whole family enjoys greatly.

Monkey Bread. More specifically, Lana's Monkey Bread. Now, I grew up eating monkey bread, usually around the holidays. But girls, this is not your mama's monkey bread. It's Lana's Monkey Bread. Lana is Honey's cousin-in-law, and she is such a great cook. She made this for us one time while we were visiting them, and I have been hooked ever since. I've just recently acquired the recipe and begun making it myself.

There are two things that really should be a given when you learn a new recipe from me. 1.) It is really easy to make, becuase I'm just too lazy to make anything that requires work. and 2.) It is probably in no way healthy or good for you. Probably good, just not good for you. So without further adue, I am going to share with you the recipe for Lana's Monkey Bread.

3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 stick butter or margarine
1 sm box butterscotch pudding/pie filling (not instant, be sure it says "pudding/pie filling")
24 Rhodes' Rise and Bake white rolls (frozen)
1/2 c. chopped pecans

Place frozen rolls in bunt pan. Sprinkle in pecans. Sprinkle dry pudding mix evenly over rolls and pecans. In a small sauce pan, melt together butter, sugar, and cinnamon until it bubbles. Pour over rolls. Cover with cotton dish towel (not terry cloth) and let rise overnight. In the morning, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve warm with coffee and milk.

Now, don't get scared off if you aren't a butterscotch fan. I'm not really either, but this doesn't overwhelm you with the taste. If you are still skeptic, buy the vanilla flavored pudding/pie filling. It's just as good. I'm also not a fan of nuts, but this stuff is so rich, you need the nuts to balance out the sweet.

We all LOVE Lana's Monkey Bread here at our casa, even though it is similar to one of our holiday favorites. When it gets close to Christmas, I'll share my family's traditional recipe for Monkey Bread. But for now, enjoy this sweet start to your day!

YES! Thank you so much for posting this! Its almost time for a grocery trip and I will plan on adding this to my list- well you know what I mean. I am the same way about books. I am not really a reader b/c of the time factor but once I get one I like I read it straight through or I forget too much!
